La Chance is a furniture design, rugs and lamp company. The brand features a cosmopolitan selection of work by the best designers of the new generation.
La Chance’s ambitious purpose is to provide a contemporary interpretation of the French ornamental and decorative furniture tradition.
La Chance products are united by their emphasis on sophisticated, rich and distinctive design produced using noble materials. The brand reintroduces warm and uninhibited luxury and aims to break away from cold, impersonal and conceptual design. The result is a collection of strong personality products for disinhibited interiors.
To create the collection, La Chance has gathered the best talents of the effervescent French ‘Nouvelle Vague’, but also seeks inspirations around the world, with talents from Italy, Netherlands, Israel, Sweden, Belgium, Poland and the US.
A sustainable approach for contemporary family furniture
The love of beautiful materials is the driver of La Chance creative approach. La Chance uses only noble, natural and durable materials such as solid wood, metal, marble, cork, leather, blown glass, or wool. La Chance develops strong identity pieces meant to last long, the kind of objects that 'get a patina' instead of ageing. All La Chance products are made by artisans based in Europe. Furthermore, La Chance exclusively works with wood proceeding from a sustainable exploitation certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
La Chance explores the theme of the split personality that was developed by Stevenson in his novel strange case of Docteur Jekyll ans Mr Hyde’ (1886). The hero oscillates between insanity and reason and splits to be sometimes the impulsive Mr Hyde, sometimes the very courteous Dr Jekyll. La Chance therefore offers two visions of each object and plays with colors, finishes to relay those to singularly different universes:
- ‘Hyde’ products are optimistic, playful, colored sometimes naïve. The result is arty and energizing.
- ‘Jekyll’ products are soft and polished. Their finish is often treated with natural materials and dark tones. The result is sober and luxurious.
La Chance style
La Chance plays on the accumulation and juxtaposition of materials and colors within the same object. Various elements and materials are put together in a harmonious and sophisticated way. The ‘Vulcain’ lamp is a good example, mixing marble for the base, brass for the lampshade, lacquered metal for the ‘key’ switch and fabric for the wire.
The combination of very light structures and massive parts is also a trademark of the collection. The visually heavy parts are suspended in a dramatic way and give the pieces their strong presence. They are the twist in a quiet room, they demand to be the centre of attention. For instance, the ‘Tembo’ large cork seat and solid wood body are sit on a thin metal wire structure. The same goes for the ‘Float’ table whose inverted cone seems to hover above the reflective surface of the base.
Nothing to hide! the structure and construction are often hidden in furniture. La Chance has chosen not only to showcase them, but also to use them as decorative elements. For instance, on the ‘Borghese’ sofa, the structure becomes a tree or on the ‘Magnum’ table, the metal matrix that supports links the marble legs with the wood tabletop becomes the trademark of the table. Everyone can choose his favorite universe or associate both to create a rich and complex personality.
